Rachel Srinivasan- Modern Artist

I was born in Oklahoma. I began drawing by scribbling on paper as a one and a half year old. Most of my formative years were spent in Omaha, Nebraska. I discovered my love of figurative art before high school and studied at the Bemis Fine Art Center. While in high school I received the Marie Walsh Sharpe Scholarship and attended the Marie Walsh Sharpe camp in Colorado Springs. I preferred working in acrylics and ink during this period. Then, I traveled abroad to study in Rome, where I was immersed in Italian art and language. There I was also introduced to working in oil. Upon returning to the US, I attended ASU and earned a Bachelor’s of Art in Painting and a Bachelor’s of Language Arts in Italian.

When I decided to study art in college, my family protested but I persisted in my life-long goal of becoming an artist. During my sophomore year, I became a mother. Despite personal turmoil and lack of much support in Arizona, I persevered and was awarded the Scult Scholarship from the Scult Family and the Phoenix Art Museum. I also received the senior artist’s studio scholarship from ASU’s faculty.  I live in Tempe with my daughter. My latest series of  paintings is cubist coffee and one of my pieces is showing at Portland in the Park in downtown Phoenix.   I have collectors in Dubai, Turkey, San Francisco, and continue to sell my work around the world.
